UK Or Abroad?

We've yet to take the children abroad, they don't yet even have passports as I've mentioned before, but we will take them somewhere abroad one day. A friend, who incidently is coming away with us and her family, when we holiday in the UK recently went to America. She had an amazing once in a lifetime holiday with another friend. They visited Hollywood and Las Vegas.....both places that I would LOVE to go. She told me they shopped, went to popular Las Vegas attractions, dined out, relaxed by the pool, went sightseeing in Hollywood and lots lots more. How awesome. It sounds like my idea of paradise.

However, she is as much looking forward to her holiday with us in the UK, which is likely to be the complete opposite to that of the one she had in the USA. Here we'll be staying in caravans at a holiday park instead of plush hotels, the weather could be wet (going by the recent rain we've had) and we'll have four children to entertain! They had sunshine and it was just the two of them. Don't get me wrong I'm really looking forward to Cornwall but it's not America is it!

As much as we are looking forward to our family holidays I know without a doubt I'd jump at the chance for her holiday of a lifetime! I think the key is to plan, have a rough itinerary (for holidays in the UK or abroad) and most of all have fun!
I know we'll have a great time and will make special memories but how do you decide whether to holiday in the UK or abroad? I'd love to know how people make that choice! For us it's been a decision based on not wanting to take the children abroad when too young and of course finances have played a part. Now they are older though I think the time will soon come for us to spread our wings and explore more of the world. Maybe Hollywood and Las Vegas with no kids allowed though.

Now, where did I put those buckets and spades?
