Celebrating 150 years of Beatrix Potter!

2016 sees 150 years since the birth of Beatrix Potter, one of the world’s most cherished children’s authors.

Beatrix Potter is best known for creating The Tale of Peter Rabbit and the subsequent stories for children that make up a collection of 23 Tales. However Beatrix was a fascinating women and accomplished many things during her lifetime. She was an ambitious and successful businesswoman, fiercely guarding her creations and even pioneering the launch of the merchandise programme associated with Peter Rabbit. She was a revered scientist making important discoveries around mycology (the study of fungi) through her meticulous botanical drawings and was a passionate conservationist. Using the funds from the sales of her little books she bought land that was under threat from developers in her beloved Lake District, which she then bequeathed to the National Trust on her death. Beatrix was a fascinating woman and this anniversary allows us to celebrate her varied achievements and accomplishments, many of which went unnoticed during her lifetime. We've yet to visit her home in the Lake District but it's on the bucket list.

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of this incredible women, we felt it was only fitting to organise an Easter gifting blog tour, focusing on her most famous creation of all, Peter Rabbit! The tour was last with Cheryl and will be stopping with Fiona.

I remember with fondness listening to The Tale of Jemima Puddle-duck with my Mum as a child and having a collection of the books which I cherished. Another favourite was The Tale of Benjamin Bunny! Perhaps the inspiration behind one of my Son's names! Now the monkeys love the TV series and we can often be heard singing the theme tune together! On chatting to my 7 year old he has asked me to write that Peter Rabbit has two friends called Lily and Benjamin and that there are three baddies!
